COHASSET — Chief William Quigley reports that the Cohasset Police Department responded this afternoon after a cyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a vehicle.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Cohasset Police were dispatched to the 300 block of North Main Street for a reported crash involving a bicycle and a car. Upon arrival, officers located a 57-year-old Cohasset man on the ground suffering from significant injuries.

The Cohasset Fire Department and a mutual aid ambulance from the Scituate Fire Department responded to the scene, and the cyclist was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening.

Following a preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the crash, Cohasset Police determined that the cyclist was traveling northbound on North Main Street at approximately 20 mph when a 2011 Ford Escape driven by a 91-year-old Cohasset man turned into his path, heading toward a driveway.

Officers determined that the cyclist was unable to avoid the vehicle and collided with the rear passenger side door and went through the closed rear door window into the back seat of the vehicle.

The driver was issued a citation at the scene for Failure to Use Caution and Cohasset Police have filed an immediate threat complaint with the Registry of Motor Vehicles in order to revoke the driver’s license pending a hearing.
