COHASSET — This week, the Cohasset Police and Fire Departments responded to three overdoses in the last two days. Throughout the greater Boston area, law enforcement agencies are seeing a rise in fake prescription pills being sold, containing lethal doses of fentanyl, meth and xylazine.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also issued a Public Safety Alert and began their “One Pill Can Kill” public awareness campaign because of an increase they have seen. The DEA says “the U.S. overdose crisis has reached a devastating new height with more than 107,000 people dying over the last year from drug overdoses.”
The Cohasset Police Department continues to work with Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition, Cohasset Public Schools, and other community partners to help educate, promote awareness, and implement resources to help make an impact on substance misuse in our community.
While our Officers and Fire Department personnel carry Naloxone (Narcan) with them, it starts with you. Please share this message and if you or someone you know needs help, reach out to the resources below or call us. We are here to help. We are all in this together. We are #oneCohasset.
Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition will also be holding their 6th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 6:45 p.m. on the Cohasset Common. The vigil will feature words of hope, remembrance, and expressions of community strength for all those who have been affected by an overdose. All are welcome to attend.
