CPD Arrest Man Following Multiple Vehicle Break-ins

A 24-year-old Cohasset man was arrested on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at about 10:30 pm following several reports of vehicle break-ins throughout the day and evening around Cohasset Village, Pleasant Street, Red Gate Lane, and Fern Way.

Cohasset Police, in a complaint filed with Quincy District Court, allege that Jack C. MacMillan, 24, from Cohasset, entered several parked cars Sunday, ransacked them, and stole items. Through a follow-up investigation and subsequent 9-1-1 callers reporting suspicious activity, officers located MacMillan and recovered the alleged stolen property along with several prescription pills that did not belong to MacMillan.

MacMillan was arrested on North Main Street by Wheelwright Park and transported to Cohasset Police, where he was held overnight for court Monday morning, where he was arraigned on the following charges:

1)            B&E m/v nighttime with the intent to commit a felony;

2)            B&E m/v daytime with the intent to commit a felony (2-counts);

3)            Receiving stolen property;

4)            Possession of Class E drugs

At booking, MacMillan possessed a key fob to a Porsche that they suspect was stolen. They suspect that more victims have not reported their cars entered and are encouraging people to report those incidents to Cohasset Police at 781-383-1212 or TIPS@Cohassetpolice.com.

Fireworks Event Information for July 2nd Independence Day Celebration

**FIREWORKS EVENT TONIGHT**

COHASSET—The Cohasset Community Fireworks will take place on July 2, 2024. The fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. at Sandy Beach. Because of the anticipated crowds and for everyone’s safety, several road closures will be in place, and parking will NOT be allowed in some areas.

There will be no public parking in the Sandy Beach parking lot. Residents with HP placards and a valid beach sticker can park at Sandy Beach before 8pm.

Once you are parked at Sandy Beach, you cannot leave until approximately 10pm due to pedestrian traffic.

How to get to Sandy Beach:

• Citizens may use those roads to walk or bike from Beach Street to Atlantic Avenue to Sandy Beach.

Where to Park:

• Town Hall Parking Lot

• Village Parking Lot

• High School Parking Lot

Free Transportation:

• Pick up at Cohasset High School and the Corner of South Main St. and Depot Ct.

o Free Bus Transportation to and from Sandy Beach will start at 6:30 P.M.

o Buses will run before and after the fireworks

o Bus transportation will be suspended during the fireworks show

Cohasset Police Make Arrest Following Road Rage Incident

Cohasset Police arrested a 51-year-old Hingham man Friday, June 28, 2024, at about 11 pm, following a road rage incident on Route 3A near Sohier Street.

The 34-year-old victim, from South Boston, called 9-1-1 and reported that he and the operator of a 2006 Jeep were involved in a road rage incident while driving North on Route 3A.  The victim alleged that the driver of the Jeep stopped in front of him, exited the Jeep wielding a metal expandable police baton, and began to strike him about the head and body, as well as strangle him, before fleeing the scene.  The victim copied down a license plate as the Jeep fled.

Police Officers from Cohasset went to the Jeep owner’s home in Hingham and identified him as the alleged assailant.  Officers arrested the man and towed the Jeep back to Cohasset Police Headquarters, where they obtained a search warrant for the Jeep and recovered the expandable metal baton inside the vehicle.

Gregory D. Knowles, 51 years of age, from Hingham, was arrested for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (metal baton), Strangulation, Assault & Battery, and Witness intimidation.  He will be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday, July 1, 2024.  The victim in this incident sustained visible injuries but declined medical treatment on the scene.

 

Cohasset Police Respond to Call June 27, 2024

On June 27, 2024, at about 11 a.m., Cohasset Police and Fire units were dispatched to a work yard located off of Route 3A in Cohasset for a reported industrial accident involving a 77-year-old male who had been operating an excavator with a hammer drill that was breaking apart large rocks.
On scene, the victim stated the machine was violently jolted and then slammed down when the hammer slipped off of a rock he was breaking.  Cohasset Fire Department paramedics stabilized the victim, removed him from the operator’s seat, and transported him to the hospital by ambulance.
Cohasset Police detectives and the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating this incident.

Cohasset Police Arrest Halifax Man for Cocaine Trafficking Following Crash

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Cohasset Police officers responded to the Dunkin Donuts on King Street (Route 3A) for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pick-up truck hitting another vehicle in the drive-thru.  9-1-1 callers reported that the pick-up truck’s operator was having a seizure while behind the wheel, and the truck was in gear and spinning tires.
When officers arrived, they learned that bystanders had been able to place the pick-up truck in Park and secure it.  As officers were rendering emergency aid to the driver, they discovered a crack pipe and other drug paraphernalia around the driver.
Cohasset Fire Department paramedics arrived, treated the driver, and prepared him for transport to South Shore Hospital.  Investigation on the scene, including patrol officers and now Cohasset detectives, revealed a large amount of white powder, thought to be cocaine, inside the truck.

The male was arrested on the scene and brought to the hospital.  He was later booked at Cohasset Police HQ for the following charges:

                1)           Trafficking in Class B Drugs over 100 Grams;
                2)           OUI – Drugs; and

                3)           Negligent Operation of a m/v

The suspect is Alex E. Neumeier, 28, from Halifax, MA. Cohasset Police detectives are continuing to investigate this case.  Neumeier was arraigned at Quincy District Court on June 20th and will be held at the Norfolk County House of Correction pending a dangerousness hearing.

 

Dog injured in crash on King Street

Cohasset—At 10:26 a.m., on Friday, November 3, 2023, an on-duty Cohasset Police officer witnessed a three-car chain reaction crash in front of 135 King Street (Route 3A) involving a 1995 Mack dump truck, a 2019 Toyota 4Runner, and a 2021 Land Rover.

Cohasset Fire and Police assisting after the crashThe 4Runner and Land Rover were stopped in the northbound lane, waiting for a vehicle to turn into a driveway, when the Mack truck, also headed northbound, rear-ended the 4Runner at a high rate of speed, crushing the cargo area of the SUV.  The impact force pushed the 4Runner into the Land Rover and sent the Mack truck careening off the road.

emergency personnel assisting on scene after the crashMinor injuries were reported at the scene, except for a German Shepherd dog, which was inside a travel crate in the rear of the 4Runner.  Part of the steel travel crate the dog was in got crushed on impact, and the dog sustained cuts and bruises.  Cohasset Firefighters and Paramedics freed the dog from the wreckage, and he was subsequently transported to a local veterinarian by Hull Animal Control.  The dog is expected to recover fully.

The driver of the Mack truck, a 65-year-old man from Weymouth, received a criminal citation for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to drive within marked lanes, failure to wear a seatbelt, and failure to have flares in a commercial vehicle.  The owner of the truck, a Cohasset landscaping contractor, received a citation for allowing an uninspected commercial vehicle on a public way.

All vehicles got towed, and Route 3A was closed northbound for about 45 minutes.

Two females charged in alleged organized retail theft of nearly $4,000 in merchandise from Cohasset pharmacy chain

COHASSET — Cohasset Police detectives allege in a complaint filed with the Quincy District Court that two females stole $3,999.65 in retail merchandise from a Cohasset pharmacy on October 17, 2023, around 12:30 pm.

Cohasset detectives identified and charged the following suspects with one count each of Organized Retail Theft, a felony, in violation of Massachusetts General Laws:

  1. Niculina LAZAR – 23 years of age
    Anaheim, CA

 

  1. Aurora MICLESLU – 30 years of age

Baltimore, MD

This case is part of a larger investigation and alleged criminal conspiracy being investigated by Quincy, Cohasset, Hingham, and Weymouth police detectives, wherein more than $40,000 in merchandise was allegedly stolen from pharmacies on the South Shore.  Items recovered include face creams, oils, beauty products, and allergy medications.

Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley praised the work of vigilant store employees and police detectives.  A court date has not been set.

Cohasset Police investigate rollover crash near Beechwood Street and Hillside Drive Wednesday

COHASSET — On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at about 3:40 p.m., Cohasset Police and Fire responded to the intersection of Beechwood Street and Hillside Drive for a report of a rollover crash with injuries. First arriving officers reported that the driver, a 70-year-old man from Quincy, self-extricated and was outside of his 2009 Toyota sedan with extensive facial injuries.

Investigation on the scene, which included eyewitness accounts, showed that the man was traveling west on Beechwood Street, operating at or about the speed limit, left the travel lane, and hit a tree, causing the car to roll at least once. The driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance, and the vehicle was towed.  Beechwood Street was closed for nearly 1-hour.  The driver was issued a citation for failing to stay within marked lanes.
