20-year-old Hull Man Arrested on Firearms Charges

Cohasset Police arrested Nathan G. Sweeney of Hull for unlawful carrying of a loaded handgun, improper storage of a firearm, and improper storage of ammunition following a 9-1-1 call on January 17, 2025, at about 3:30 am, reporting a possible domestic issue.

The 9-1-1 caller said that a Dodge Ram pickup had been following him and his female passenger for about 30 minutes, and the truck’s driver may be the boyfriend of his passenger and armed with guns.

Cohasset Police Officers Kevin Lynch, Brendan Skerry, and Sergeant Harrison Schmidt were dispatched to intercept the vehicles on Main Street. Officer Lynch conducted a motor vehicle stop by Cohasset Common and talked with the truck driver, who was identified as Nathan Sweeney.

As a result of Officer Lynch’s investigation, a loaded 9mm handgun was found along with a 12-gauge shotgun, another gun, and ammunition. Further investigation revealed that Sweeney was not licensed to carry a pistol and was arrested.

Sweeney was brought to headquarters, booked, and held overnight. He was brought to Quincy District Court on Friday morning for arraignment.

Cohasset Police Step Up for the 2025 Boston Bruins BFit Challenge to Honor Officer Mark Jenkins

Chief William Quigley is pleased to announce that 12 members of the Cohasset Police Department, as well as fallen Cohasset Police Officer Mark Jenkins’ wife, Maria Jenkins, are taking part in the 2025 Boston Bruins BFit Challenge to raise funding for the Massachusetts Hundred Club. The Hundred Club gives an unequivocal and unconditional promise to police officers and firefighters in Massachusetts, that in the event they are killed in the line of duty, they will compassionately care for their surviving families for the rest of their lives and never forget their sacrifice.

The Cohasset Police Department is participating in this challenge in honor of Officer Mark Jenkins, who was a valued member of the CPD in the Criminal Investigations Division and more importantly as a friend. Mark will always be cherished and remembered.

The officers participating from the Cohasset Police Department are Detective Lieutenant Michael Lopes, Sergeant Patrick Reardon, Sergeant Harrison Schmidt, Detective Julie Hall, and Police Officers John Harrington, Gregory Lowrance, Thomas Brown, Kevin Lynch, Chase Colasurdo, and Amy Greenough, as well as Special Police Officers Paul Bulman and Sean Boyle.

Firefighters, law enforcement, military members, EMS personnel and community members compete in both fundraising and total number of steps taken during the challenge. First responders participate in courses with varying levels of difficulty. Many of the first responders involved will run up and down the steps of the TD Garden. The challenge has been held both virtually and in person.

The Cohasset Police Department will be participating in the in-person challenge which will be at the TD Garden and held on February 2, 2025.

Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $300, which brings CPD’s total fundraising goal to $3,600. Last year we raised $4,580 and we are hoping to surpass that this year!

West Yarmouth Man Arrested for OUI After Serious Crash on North Main Street

A 34-year-old man from West Yarmouth was arrested early Monday morning following a serious crash on North Main Street near Ripley Road. Police and fire units responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder and a utility pole. When officers arrived, they found an abandoned SUV with heavy damage and a snapped utility pole, but no driver was present.
Due to the severity of the crash, Cohasset K9 “Einstein” was called to the scene to help locate the vehicle’s operator. The driver was located by officers near North Main Street and Rocky Lane at around 4:45 AM. After a brief investigation, Christian W. Chapman was arrested by Cohasset police and booked on several charges, including: OUI (Operating Under the Influence) – drugs, negligent operation of a vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash, speeding, and failure to drive in marked lanes.
The 2012 Pathfinder was totaled in the collision, and North Main Street, between Jerusalem Road and Ripley Road, remained closed into Monday afternoon while utility companies worked to replace the downed pole. The vehicle’s operator refused medical treatment.

Cohasset Man Arrested by Detectives Following Investigation into Vandalism of a Political Sign

Cohasset police detectives arrested Frederic LAIDLAW, 74 years of age, of Cohasset, for vandalism of a political sign located on Route 3A. Cohasset police allege that LAIDLAW entered onto private property and painted a swastika on a political sign Wednesday, October 30th.
LAIDLAW will be arraigned in Quincy District Court today on a felony charge of defacement of property in violation of Massachusetts General Laws. The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Civil Rights Division, has been notified of the arrest.
This investigation remains open.

CPD Arrest Man Following Multiple Vehicle Break-ins

A 24-year-old Cohasset man was arrested on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at about 10:30 pm following several reports of vehicle break-ins throughout the day and evening around Cohasset Village, Pleasant Street, Red Gate Lane, and Fern Way.

Cohasset Police, in a complaint filed with Quincy District Court, allege that Jack C. MacMillan, 24, from Cohasset, entered several parked cars Sunday, ransacked them, and stole items. Through a follow-up investigation and subsequent 9-1-1 callers reporting suspicious activity, officers located MacMillan and recovered the alleged stolen property along with several prescription pills that did not belong to MacMillan.

MacMillan was arrested on North Main Street by Wheelwright Park and transported to Cohasset Police, where he was held overnight for court Monday morning, where he was arraigned on the following charges:

1)            B&E m/v nighttime with the intent to commit a felony;

2)            B&E m/v daytime with the intent to commit a felony (2-counts);

3)            Receiving stolen property;

4)            Possession of Class E drugs

At booking, MacMillan possessed a key fob to a Porsche that they suspect was stolen. They suspect that more victims have not reported their cars entered and are encouraging people to report those incidents to Cohasset Police at 781-383-1212 or TIPS@Cohassetpolice.com.
